A simple main border on an ivory background, with a trefoil outer border and a zig-zag inner border. The handle is heavy and stiff due to the well packed heavy wefts. The pile is thick with coarse but shiny wool. Condition: The rug is complete with original sides and ends. There is some corrosion in the black and aubergine wool, there has been some re-piling in the lower left quarter. Commentary: The structure and wool quality point to a Kurdish origin, a very similar piece in Hali 59 p14 and Hali 60 p148 was ascribed to Eastern Anatolian Yuruk. Another similar piece in Opie's Tribal Rugs p79 is given a Kurdish origin. A piece illustrated in Hali 62 p61 is not so similar with 4 hexagons per row and a wider main border. Price: £1850 | |
