Description Four panels, three with three memling guls, the fourth panel with reiprocal latch hooks. The panels are separated by blue X shaped motifs with a very simple reciprocal border which is different on the vertical sides to the horizontal. Note the extra row of X motifs at each end giving the efeect of a skirt at each end.
Condition Good, the rug is complete except for about 4 inches missing from the lower kelim end. The pile is low in some places. There has been some re-piling done in the field, done in Turkey using old wool. The sides have been repaired in places, there is some of the original sides.
Commentary There are many structural details that indicate a Kagizman origin in Eastern Anatolia. See Hali 88, pages 76-81 for a full description. The colours are also characteristic with the cochineal red, and apricot. What is also interesting is the Turkic influence in the design particularly the end panels. A powerful and intersting piece.
